4 Ways to Accelerate Sales: Tip #4 Master the Inner Game of Sales

If you want to accelerate sales, here’s the truth most people don’t talk about:

It’s not just strategy.
It’s not just skill.
It’s the inner game.

There are six success habits that drive sustainable sales momentum:
Self-confidence. Self-discipline. Work ethic. Connection with people. Goal-setting. Fulfillment.

These are not tactics. They’re internal drivers of execution.

I learned this the hard way.

At one point in my career, I went from sales hero to almost getting fired. My results plummeted. I was working hard, but I had stopped playing the inner game. I lost discipline in my daily routines. I lost clarity in my goals. My confidence wavered. And when confidence drops, performance follows.

No one taught me this in corporate training. The message was simple:“Do more. Push harder. Find a way...Make a Way.”

But effort without alignment doesn’t create acceleration—it creates burnout.

Everything changed when I hired a sales coach and recommitted to mastering my habits. I rebuilt structure. I reset my mindset. I reconnected to purpose. That year, I didn’t just recover—I blew out my annual sales number.

That experience became the foundation for what I now teach.

Most sales training focuses on the outer game: scripts, objections, closing techniques. But when pressure hits, execution depends on your habits.

  • Self-confidence fuels courageous conversations. Sales confidence is a result of impeccable self esteem. Confidence is not something we are born with, it is a skill we can all learn and master. Hire a coach if you need to work on this.

  • Self-discipline protects your daily activity. Be accountable - accountability is what we do when no one else is watching. This includes prospecting, follow up, and keeping commitments to yourself, your team, your clients,

  • Work ethic creates consistency. The numbers do not lie. Meaningful and intentional activity drives results. Most failure comes from inaction and complacency.

  • Connection builds trust. Stop selling, start serving. People buy from whom they like and trust. Solve problems, listen more, speak less.

  • Goal-setting creates clarity. Focus on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals. When you feel stuck or have lost momentum, look at your goals and ask why you started?

  • Fulfillment sustains resilience. Let's face it - sales can be the toughest and the most rewarding career. Find meaning and purpose, and remember your 'why' on the tough days. Do not take rejection or the word no personally.
