Have you ever felt that in spite of your best efforts, your sales results were lacking, or not where you wanted them to be? I remember one year in my sales career very well. I had the best year of sales performance: I made the Top 10, I was promoted to a Sales Field Trainer, I received recognition from the Sales Leadership Team...followed by the next year, where I was on track for it to be my worst sales performance year-ever! I share the full story in my book 'From Zero to Sales Hero,' and today, I will share the Top 10 Tips of how I got out of my own sales slump. I continue to follow these 10 ideas today, when my sales, revenue, or momentum is lacking. Lets face it: being stuck can be a challenging time for any sales or business development professional, but with the right strategies, it's possible to overcome them and get back on track. Here are ten of my most effective ways to reignite your sales success:
1. Attitude Adjustment: Mindset is key. Adopt a positive outlook and remind yourself of past successes. Positive thinking will boost your confidence and influence your interactions with clients. Create a daily morning ritual: working out, journaling, walking, meditation, silence, are a few ways I keep my attitude in check.
2. Accelerate Daily Activity: Double your sales activities. More calls and meetings can lead to more opportunities. Sometimes, outworking a slump with sheer activity can yield surprising results. Create a weekly activity tracker, set goals, review them daily.
3. Increase Accountability: Team up with a colleague or mentor who can provide feedback and support. Regular check-ins can help keep your goals on track and motivate you to push through tough times. The year of my sales slump, I sent my weekly activity tracker (an excel spreadsheet) to my Sales Coach I hired.
4. Consistency is Key: Develop a daily routine that includes sales activities. Consistent effort creates momentum and can gradually help you climb out of a slump. Eliminate distractions, commitments, and activities that are keeping you away from success.
5. Daily Mindset Focus: Make it a habit to be in a positive state of mind. No one wants to be around negativity. People buy from whom they like and trust. Start each day with motivational exercises. Whether it's affirmations, meditation, or listening to a pep talk, getting into the right frame of mind can set a positive tone for your day.
6. Follow Up: Reconnect with leads that have gone cold. Often, potential clients just need a gentle nudge to bring their interest back. Regular follow-up can turn potential into success. Keep commitments and remember, follow up can be catching low hanging fruit!
7. Engage Current and Past Clients: Reach out to your existing or former clients. They already trust you and may be open to new opportunities or referrals. Current clients are the source of referrals, repeat business, references, and more revenue.
8. Q.T.I.P (Quit Taking It Personally): Rejections are part of sales—don’t let them define you. Learn from them and move on. They are not a reflection of your value or capability.
9. Hire a Sales Coach: Hiring a sales coach the year of my poor sales performance helped save my sales career. An experienced coach can provide new perspectives and strategies that you might not have considered. Investing in personal development pays dividends.
10. Be a Student of the Game: When in doubt, go back to the basics. Re-educate yourself on foundational sales skills, review past successes, and apply what you've learned to your current situation. Books, workshops, webinars, seminars, and having conversations with top sales performers are many of the ways I have learned to have consistent performance over the years.
By implementing these strategies, you can empower yourself to reset and ultimately overcome a sales slump. Remember, persistence and a willingness to adapt are your greatest tools.

My ⭐️ Northstar: We play 2 games in sales: the 'inner game' habits and mindset, and the 'outer game' tactics and action. The best investment you will ever make is in...yourself. This is my commitment to you, my clients, and all who attend my events!
